Where's the phone book?
If you're looking for the usual
early-in-the-year arrival of the new directory, you're going to be
disappointed. The Delaware Public Service Commission, like many of
its counterparts across the nation, agreed last summer, with minimal
public notice, to relieve the phone company of the responsibility to
distribute it. But it ruled that people can obtain one upon request. The
rub, it turns out, is that no one has told us how to request one. A call
to the Public Service Commission resulted in a response to the effect
that it doesn't know. Attempts to reach Verizon resulted in the usual
'if you want ... push this button' recording. Suffice to say none of the
buttons led to anyone willing to take a request.
