Darley Green picked as site
for the new Claymont library

County government has decided to accept Commonwealth Group's offer to donate slightly more than an acre of land in the Darley Green development as the site on which to build a branch public library in Claymont. A reliable source told Delaforum that the property will be other than the one in the commercial area planned along an extension of Manor Avenue, which previously had been offered. A county spokesperson declined to provide any information pending an official announcement of the decision. Friends of the Claymont Library, a citizens organization which will help finance it, previously expressed preference for locating the facility on a larger tract on the site of the former Children's Home on Green Street. That property would have had to be purchased.
