Brandywine has
a sharp
increase in enrollment
Brandywine School
district has about 300 more students this academic year than
last, according to preliminary figures provided to Delaforum by
information officer Alexis Andrianopoulos. That is the highest
enrollment since the 2004-05 school year and is about 100 more
students than were on the rolls a decade ago. This is the third
consecutive year in which the district has seen an enrollment
increase. While the 'official' headcount on which state support
is based is not taken until Sept. 30, she said that the current
total is 10,663, up from 10,366 last year and significantly
higher than the 10,413 projected in the district's preliminary
budget approved by the school board in July. She also said the
district has recalled 11 of the 23 teachers laid off at the end
of the past academic year. |
