Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route

STOP
#1

Beginning at the top, Delaware's 26-mile segment starts where the 'trail' enters the state from Pennsylvania. Philadelphia Pike -- designated U.S. Route 13 -- passes through the Sun Oil refinery, which straddles the border north of Claymont. About a half mile south, at Naamans Road, is the Robinson House. Part of the structure predate the Revolutionary War by more than two  generations. Colonel Thomas Robinson, who lived there, served in the war. It may be assumed that General Washington -- whom Robinson knew personally --  or Count Rochambeau or both dropped in before passing by.

The property is now owned by the state and maintained by the nonprofit Naamans Heritage Association, which periodically sponsors public events. It also is available for rent by other organizations and individuals for public or private events.
