Normally a sedate creek flowing smoothly around exposed rocks at this time of year, the Brandywine, swollen by nearly a week of heavy rain,  roars through Wilmington Parks overflowing its banks. This is what it looked like on the afternoon of June 28.

Van Buren Street bridge arches are enough of a barrier to force the water to back up.

This usually is a parking lot.

Geese know to stand clear.

Long-time residents have seen the Brandywine flood before, but the consensus is that it has never been like this within the memory of most observers.
