Chief McAllister Announces
Resignation from New Castle County Police Department;
County Executive Coons Announces End of Police Chief
Investigation
New Castle,
Delaware - County Executive Coons and Chief McAllister today
jointly announced the tendering and acceptance of David
McAllister's resignation as New Castle County Chief of Police,
effective immediately.
Chief McAllister has tendered his resignation and acceptance of
it concludes the investigation of management practices in the
New Castle County Police Department with regards to Chief David
McAllister. By agreement of Chief McAllister and New Castle
County, the investigation has concluded. No disciplinary action
will be taken. There has been no request for, and no agreement
made, to provide financial incentives for the resignation.
In his letter of resignation, Chief McAllister advised County
Executive Coons that he leaves the office of Chief of Police
satisfied with the goals accomplished during his tenure. Chief
McAllister stated that he now wishes to explore some
recently-presented career opportunities.
"Colonel McAllister's resignation will allow Public Safety
Director Guy Sapp and the leadership team of the police
department to chart a new path." said County Executive Coons.
Chief McAllister stated that he wishes the best for the County,
the County Police Department, and the men and women who served
under him. County Executive Coons in accepting the resignation
thanked David McAllister for his years of service to the
citizens of the County.
Lt. Col. Scott McLaren will continue to serve at Acting Chief of
Police pending the selection of a successor.
