Building program

Hold a referendum

·         Six school buildings are in serious need of repairs and upgrading to provide the kind of education the community demands for its children.

·         The cost of renovations will never be less than it is now – the district should act to stay ahead of inflation.

Don’t hold a referendum

·         Brandywine has not formulated a plan to comply with the Neighborhood Schools Act and therefore really doesn’t know what will be needed in the way of facilities in the near future.

·         A large decline in sutdent enrollment during the next five years is projected.

Operating tax

Hold a referendum

·         The district has held the line on the tax rate for seven years and, as a result, its available surplus will run out by July, 2002.

·         Additional money is needed to pay for both current programs and new ones required to maintain quality education.

Don’t hold a referendum

·         It has been demonstrated that careful controls can result in significant savings and continued efforts in that direction could produce results that would forestall the need for additional revenue now.

·         The district has not yet fully demonstrated a commitment to effective fiscal responsibility.
